The world’s largest plane reported to have been shot down by the Russian military during the campaign to invade Ukraine may still be intact, an expert said recently.
But Paul Bryne, a professor of planetary science at the University of Washington, says the news may not be true.
“Do not be convinced by the news about the An225 aircraft,” the expert wrote, publishing some recently published satellite images.
“I superimposed this plan on what was supposed to be the visible tail of the plane, according to this image posted earlier on @CSBiggers,” he wrote.
“Although there is a lot of damage to the hangar of the plane, most of his body is in the undamaged part of the shelter.”
He added: “Of course we will not know until the real photos come out of the field, or if the surviving part will be more valuable for the flight.”
“But it is also that most of the aircraft, at least structurally, is undamaged. “Or at least I hope so,” said the expert.
Last week, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba shared an image of the plane, commenting that “the country will never surrender.”
He said: “This is the largest aircraft in the world, AN-225 ‘Mriya’ (‘Dream’ in Ukrainian). Russia may have destroyed ‘Mriya’.
“But they will never destroy our dream of a strong, free and European state. We will triumph! ”
“We will rebuild the plane,” the minister added.
