The Czech Republic is no longer able to cope with the wave of coronavirus infections.
The country recorded a record number of cases, over 66,000, within the last 24 hours. 57 thousand of them are new infections, but almost 9,800 others are reinfection. Local health authorities are somewhat warmed by the fact that the number of hospitalized is currently 2,653 – lower than in previous waves of the pandemic.
The country of 10 million still lags behind EU countries in terms of the rate of population immunization. 63.2 percent of the population is considered fully vaccinated today. About one third of the citizens received the boosting dose and also took the boosting dose. The pandemic has left its mark deep in the Czech Republic.

Last year, more than 139,600 deaths were registered, 8 percent more than in 2020, when the first wave of the disease started. The main age group of the victims is from 55 to 74 years old.
