Through a Twitter post, the UK Ministry of Defense says Russian armored vehicles have opened a new road and are heading towards the capital, as they have not been successful in capturing Chernihiv, a city in northern Ukraine .
It also says officials will continue to monitor reports of “sporadic clashes” between Russian and Ukrainian troops on the northern outskirts of the capital.
