NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said in a statement to the media: “We now have a war in Europe of a magnitude and a kind that we thought belonged to history.”
He says a meeting with the North Atlantic Council has just ended and a long list of countries have agreed to hold urgent consultations.
“This is a difficult moment for Europe’s security,” he said.
Russia’s “unjustified and unprovoked” attack on Ukraine is endangering countless innocent lives, says NATO Secretary General.
Jens Stoltenberg says Russia has launched air and missile strikes, ground forces and special forces from many directions targeting Ukraine’s military infrastructure and major urban centers.
“This is a deliberate, cold-blooded and long-planned invasion,” he said. Russia’s leaders will bear full responsibility for their reckless actions and lost lives, he added.
