New satellite images from Maxar Technologies collected over the weekend show a noticeable shift in Russia’s military deployment around Ukraine as officials continue to warn of an imminent invasion, according to the New York Times.
Some smaller deployments now shine in some units located on training grounds or off-base. Most of the troops are concentrated in Belgorod, 40 km from the border with Ukraine. The images also showed a landing site for helicopters that has been set up these past two weeks.
The analysis by Maxar quoted by the Times proves that the units and equipment that were in a military garrison near Valuyki, have moved from there. Other footage, including a Tik Tok video, details Russian military deployment just 8 kilometers from the border.
The number of Russian troops stationed in Russia and Belarus now exceeds 190,000. The United States and other Western governments have pushed for a diplomatic solution to the stalemate and threatened Moscow with knee-jerk sanctions if it implements its plans to invade the neighboring country. But the Russian war machine continues to roar, plunging into uncertainty and fear the countries near it and beyond.
