“Taste Exchange” activity that brought together Afghans and Albanians. Afghan and Albanian chefs combine traditional Albanian cuisine with Afghan ones, which would be tasted by invited friends.
Mayor Pjerin Ndreu praised this initiative, which according to him is nothing but a demonstration of what we are, a hospitable and loving country.
The creator of this activity, chef Alfred Marku, tells more about his experience in the kitchen with Afghans, where he shows that he has found many similarities between the 2 cultures.
Ahmad Shakeb, a representative of the Afghan community, says that he feels at home, and does not forget the hospitality given by the Albanians.
“It is a good opportunity to organize such activities as we have the opportunity to exchange our cultures. We can be as ambassadors of our country to share what we have in common with you, as it is very important to understand each other, and this becomes possible if we have such events. We here feel at home, as we have a lot in common in lifestyle or work because we have a lot in common and therefore do not feel too far away from home.
David Ang, the US representative for Afghans in Shengjin, said that looking at two countries that are so different in so many ways, but that are so similar in so many other ways, is simply wonderful.
“It is something very beautiful, it is a wonderful celebration of two cultures, for me it is an honor to be here. By trying each food you can see how much in common you can find between the 2 cultures. “It’s very nice when people can connect through a dining table, sit down and enjoy the food together, it means you are hospitable and part of the community.”
Exchange of tastes was another way to show the hospitality of Albanians to Afghan citizens.
