The ship that was sailing engulfed in flames in the Atlantic Ocean, had in its barn 4,000 cars – 1,100 of which were Porsche.
The Portuguese navy announced that thankfully the 22 crew members were rescued all of whom were unharmed.
Felicity Ace, which was transporting a number of Volkswagen Group vehicles from Germany to the US, caught fire near the Azores. Audi said it also had some of its vehicles on board, but gave no figures.
An internal email from Volkswagen US immediately revealed that the ship was transporting 3,965 vehicles of VW, Porsche, Audi and Lamborghini brands, reports the German newspaper Handelsblatt, while on the automobile site, The Drive, says that there were also 189 Bentley vehicles.
The British manufacturer of luxury cars is owned by Volkswagen.
The latter himself did not confirm the number of vehicles, but said he was awaiting further information.
A photo shared by the Portuguese naval authority on its website on Wednesday showed smoke clouds coming out of the ship.
Felicity Ace was traveling from Emden, where Volkswagen has a plant, to Davisville, Rhode Island.
The fire is active but is no longer spreading, Horta port captain on Faial Island told Portuguese news agency Lusa.
