Following the agreement between the two governments, Albania has already started issuing Biometric Residence Permits for Kosovo Albanians living in our country.
The first two cards were handed to Arita and Kushtrim, two young men from Kosovo working in Tirana. The 5-year residence permit is applied for the first time in Albania based on the law that was made to facilitate this process and also based on the agreement of the Albanian government with the government of Kosovo. The Kosovo government has begun to apply the same regime in terms of issuing residence permits to Albanians in Kosovo.
The application for this biometric card is done online by filling in the form, the address where it stands and a photocopy of the document of origin, ie the passport or means of identification that they have in Kosovo.
Biometric Residence Permits are also Work Permits without the need for Kosovo Albanians to obtain a second document. Minister Çuçi brought the case of Arita Berisha, a girl from Kosovo who at the end of her studies was employed in Tirana in an IT company. The biometric document she had just received also includes her work permit.
Previously, Albania issued residence permits in A4 format without security elements and had to be renewed every year.
“Today, the procedures for a Residence Permit have been completely facilitated, with an online application and without documents. Witness for this is Kushtrimi himself who has removed the ordeal of going from one office to another every year to renew the Residence Permit “, said Minister Çuçi referring to the case of Kushtrim Reshiti, a young man from Kosovo who was a student in Tirana and at the end of his studies started working here. The issuance of Biometric Residence Permits for Albanians in Albania has started in Kosovo as well. The two governments signed the agreement at the November 26 joint meeting held in Elbasan.
