The simultaneous publication of the propaganda video of the Lebanese army and that of the Hezbollah militants in alpine training, has provoked numerous reactions on social networks.
The two published videos were ironically described by users of the network as the “Middle East Winter Olympics”, referring to the games taking place in Beijing.
The Iranian-backed Hezbollah group sought to demonstrate its determination following the recent snowfall in Lebanon. The video quickly became widely commented on the network where white-camouflaged Hezbollah fighters fired at targets near Israel’s southern border.
The video released by the Lebanese army also showed alpine units training in the snow. Hezbollah is often described as independent of the Lebanese government and is believed to have more activists than the country’s military.
Social media users compared the styles used in the two videos. Israel and the Shiite Muslim movement Hezbollah fought a brief but devastating conflict in Lebanon in 2006.
