Inflation in Greece has reached the highest level of the last 25 years, going to 6.2%.
It is the second highest figure given by the National Institute of Statistics for the period that Greece is in the Eurozone, after 5.2% that reached a month ago, while this time the Consumer Price Index has reached the levels of 1997.
This phenomenon has led to a galloping increase in the price of natural gas which has increased by 155%, electricity by 57%, heating oil by 36% and fuel by 22%.
Meanwhile, house prices have marked a record increase of 22.6% compared to a year ago. The same trend in transport prices by 11.1% and clothing and footwear by 7%.
According to data published by the Energy Regulatory Authority, Greece ranks first for the highest price of electricity that has gone to 218 euros per megawatt hour.
Greek citizens every day see large increases in prices in food basket items as olive oil is sold at 15.4% more expensive than a year ago, lamb by 12.6%, beef by 2.4%, chicken by 4.7%, while fresh fish has had a price increase of 5.9%.
Fresh vegetables on the other hand increase by 14.4%, fruits 8.4%, potatoes 17.6% and dairy products by over 6%.
According to a survey by the Foundation for Economic and Industrial Research for January, the percentage of consumers who say they “barely make it” has reached 65%.
