On the 102nd anniversary of the proclamation of Tirana as the Capital, journalist Rezarta Delisula brings the book entitled “What was Tirona”, which presents for the first time original documents found in the Ottoman Archive of the Prime Minister of Istanbul.
In the promotion of this publication in “Reja”, the mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj said that this book is a testament to the capital with 1 million inhabitants. But, focusing on the developments of the week, he also spoke about the protest of some residents, who are affected by the reconstruction process in the neighborhood “5 Maji”.
“It was very painful to see in Parliament how a debate on the seizure of property took place and the Commission was led by a tyrannical girl like Klotilda Ferhati, whose father’s land was seized, but she never said that. He listened patiently. You have occupied, we understand, because they have been difficult days. You took 500 meters, today you will take 500 meters, because this city is open to everyone. When we insist that the people who join this great heart should become tyrants, it is not a matter of accent, because it is not only the language that makes you, but the rules of coexistence, the rules of community, the rules of solidarity, the rules of good neighborliness“, Declared Veliaj.
In the 452-page book, Delisula conveys through Ottoman documents, the contribution of the local population in the construction of educational institutions, as well as details and curiosities previously unknown on the functioning of the city and the living of that time.
“If through this book we understand the codes of coexistence of this city, how it worked with the first 10 thousand inhabitants, it is certain that it will turn into a holy book, to understand the 1 million others who came later, that only good neighborliness, coexistence, open heart, solidarity, desire to contribute, to help and keep each other up, is the formula for the success of our capital“, Stressed Veliaj.
He appealed for more solidarity and cooperation, while underlining that the battle to make Tirana is a daily battle. “Sometimes many of these urban themes that we have today, we will have to put them in the eyes, in the magnifying glass, even in the microscope of the local, who says:”“Hey, wait a minute, I left my land to make the road, I gave from my property to make a bridge, I gave from my property to make a school”. This is the spirit that made Tirana the Capital, and it is the only spirit that can keep 1 million people together with the rules of coexistence, of those 10 thousand who were the first in this territory. So, even today, despite the fact that the city has challenges, I say, the battle to make Tirana is a daily battle“, Said Veliaj.
During the speech held at the book promotion, Mayor Veliaj announced the appointment of Delisula as director of the Ethnographic Museum of Tirana. Rezarta Delisula with a long experience in the media, published in December 2018 her first book “Tirana Mahnia”, a historical, ethnographic and customary guide of the capital, for which she was awarded the prize “Gratitude of the city” awarded by the Municipality of Tirana.
