The establishment of the electoral and territorial reform commission are the two issues requested by the Democratic Party that have been included in the agenda of the parliamentary session.
These are two basic reforms for the restoration of democracy as well as territorial redistribution, according to Democrats. The Democratic Party and the leader of the Democrats, Lulzim Basha, have long stated that these are two of the most important priorities for the country and the opposition.
“Today we start the work for two important reforms that are a priority for Albania and democracy, electoral reform and territorial reform.
Free and fair elections are our priority. We must do everything, consult with the best local and foreign experts, in order to build the right mechanisms to ensure that the will of the voters is not distorted, as to date, by vote buying, cooperation with crime and the use of administration and public funds.
Our priority is territorial reform. The working group, together with the deputies, will launch a round of consultations throughout the country, for a fair administrative division, to strengthen the local government and to provide good quality public services.“, Basha told the deputies in the meeting of the parliamentary group of PD.
According to the leader of the Democrats, the majority is hindering the reforms, in order to put justice in its service.
“The DP is determined to take any decision that would enable the best functioning of justice and end impunity. Today Albania is the most corrupt country in Europe and the pinnacle of corruption is in the government. Without a strong, clean and independent justice, Albania will not have economic progress nor on the path to integration.
The DP is the biggest contributor to the European integration process. And it will never take any decision against or that harms this process”.
