In all of Albania this school year in the pre-university education system there are 436 thousand students, which results in about 25 thousand fewer children in kindergartens and schools for 2022, compared to years that were about 461 thousand.
Although the transparency of the figures has been lacking, Top Channel based on the latest report of the General Directorate of Education and the Institute of Statistics has learned that the biggest decline is felt in high schools as this year there are approximately 17 thousand fewer high school students.
While in 9-year schools the number of students has dropped from 286 thousand to 278 thousand, with a shortage of 8,000 children.
The report points out that today we have 66 kindergartens and 5 closed schools compared to last school year. Meanwhile, there are 463 non-public educational institutions in the whole country.
It is noted that the covid 19 pandemic has increased the interest of parents to choose private education for their children. In the competition between the state and the private, the latter has several advantages due to the financial budget.
