The European Union drug regulator has announced that it is considering authorizing the use of the booster dose of Pfizer / BioNTech for children aged 12-15.
This announcement came after some countries in the region have already launched the immunization campaign against coronavirus with boosting doses of this age group.
The European Medicines Agency (EMA) said in a statement that boosting doses for 16- and 17-year-olds were under way.
The Vaccine Committee in Germany last month recommended that all children between the ages of 12 and 17 can take the booster dose, as coronavirus infections among young people have increased. Other states have done the same.
The EMA said that “advice on how vaccines should be given remains” in the hands of advisory groups of EU member states, reports REL.
The European Center for Disease Control and Prevention (ECDC) said the findings of a study have suggested an increase in the effectiveness of vaccines against infection in adolescents who received the booster dose compared to those who received only two doses of the vaccine.
The ECDC said that ten EU countries have already recommended boosting doses for people under 18 years of age.
