NATO countries made a show of force to Russia after the United States transferred control of its Carrier Strike attack group to the alliance for the first time since the Cold War.
Commanders aboard the aircraft carrier Harry Truman told The Telegraph that a covert activity over two and a half weeks in the Mediterranean was planned to prove that “NATO stands united as one body”.
“James Morley, NATO’s Deputy Commander of Naval Strike and Support Forces, said the alliance is ready to provide and protect its allies and is prepared for the worst if it happens.” Morley added that such a move “reflects the desire to be ready to integrate the carrier on the European side“.
His comments come as Russia is on the verge of invading Ukraine, with 100,000 military troops gathered at the border.
