Ukraine has sent a letter to the German government listing in detail the numerous weapon systems needed due to the conflict with Russia, the newspaper “Süddeutsche Zeitung” reported today.
According to the report, the country is looking for, among other things, medium-range anti-aircraft missile systems, anti-drone rifles, surveillance cameras, ammunition. The letter states that these are “weapon systems of a defensive nature”.
The German government has so far ruled out the possibility of arms supplies to Ukraine. Chancellor Olaf Scholz rejected such a move on Wednesday while speaking to “heute journal”.
This stance has recently been criticized by Ukraine and NATO’s eastern allies. According to the Süddeutsche Zeitung, in the letter, Ukraine asked the German government “to process this request as soon as possible.”
According to the report, the letter was sent to the foreign and defense ministers. Scholz and German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock have planned a series of diplomatic visits to mediate the tense conflict.
