Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has recently stepped in to mediate in the Ukraine crisis with the aim of averting Russian occupation there.
For this reason, he arrived in Kiev the day before where he met with his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelensky, and invited Vladimir Putin to Turkey for talks.
Eliza’s boss Emmanuel Macron, however, does not seem comfortable with the role of negotiator that Ankara is seeking to impose on itself. Macron, who has had several strong public clashes with Erdogan, announced he would travel to Moscow and Kiev next week in a bid to mediate the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
He will first meet with Putin on Monday, and is expected to hold talks with Zelensky the next day. It is learned that the French president has recently talked several times on the phone with both leaders.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz also plans to travel to Moscow “soon”. A meeting between Macron, Scholz and Polish President Andrzej Duda is also planned in Berlin.
