Although seaside hotels and restaurants have started opening staff calls a few months before the season, they still fail to fill their staffs.
To resolve this stalemate, many are turning to foreign labor.
According to information from the Ministry of Interior, there are a total of 7,124 foreign citizens who have received work permits in our country. Romina Koçllari, manager of a tourist resort, says that they have tried something like that.
“We conducted an experiment with foreign workers and took them to see if they fit. “The period of experimentation with them was short-lived and we were not able to make an objective judgment, but in principle we will aim at them in the future if we do not fill the staff.”
Higher salaries in European and regional countries, the seasonal nature of the service sector and the low importance given to professions in this field have made tourist resorts suffer for staff even though calls open a few months before the season. They have started hiring foreign workers, but even this solution remains strained for them in conditions when foreign workers often see Albania as a transit country to the EU.
