At least two-thirds of girls in the Netherlands are subject to “sexual harassment” on the streets, according to the country’s Statistics Institute, according to the Anadolu Agency (AA).
The Netherlands Institute of Statistics (CBS) published the findings of a survey of young people aged 12 to 25 in the country about “sexual harassment”.
The study, which includes data from February 2020 to April 2021, showed that 67 percent of young women were subjected to “sexual harassment” on the street, while the proportion of men was one third.
The survey found that half of the young women participating in the study were harassed by whistling and 40 percent were victimized through phone calls, words and shouts.
According to CBS, 21 percent of women have been harassed by their abusers and 85 percent of those hailed have stated that they did not feel safe.
The rate of sexual harassment among young women aged 18-21 was 75 percent, while 70 percent of girls aged 14-18 reported being sexually assaulted at least once during the school period.
As it is said, in cases of sexual harassment, the victims mostly ignored the situation by not reacting.
On Saturday, a demonstration was organized against incidents of harassment and sexual abuse in the country with the competing program “The Voice of Holland”. The Dutch government was asked to make legal changes that protect women in business life.
