Russian President Vladimir Putin accuses the United States of trying to drag its country into a war with Ukraine.
Washington’s intention, according to Putin, is to use this confrontation as a pretext to impose more sanctions on Moscow.
The United States, the Russian leader insists, is openly ignoring his country’s concerns about NATO forces in Europe, which means they are seeking conflict.
“It seems to me that the United States does not care too much about Ukraine’s security… Their main goal is to hinder Russia’s development. In this context, Ukraine for them is just a tool to achieve this goal“, Said Putin.
The strong Russian-American rivalry, the two countries that possess the globe’s largest nuclear arsenals, dates back to the Cold War, when Ukraine was an important part of the Soviet Union, and ranks directly behind Russia.
Putin is convinced that if Ukraine’s desire to join NATO is fulfilled, it would draw its other members to war with Moscow.
“Think of Ukraine as a member of NATO and launching an operation to retake the Crimean peninsula. What will happen then? Will we go to war with NATO? Has anyone thought this? I think not“, Said Putin.
The White House rejected his claims that Moscow would be forced into a conflict with NATO over Crimea, which it annexed in 2014.
“When the fox yells from the top of the coop that he is afraid of chickens, this is definitely not an indisputable fact. And we all know who the fox is here“, Said in front of reporters the spokesperson, Jen Psaki.
