The UK government will introduce a new package of sanctions against Russia on Monday that could affect the assets of Russian energy companies.
At least so reports the London newspaper The Times, citing sources in the British cabinet.
According to the information, the new sanctions, which include the freezing of assets and the ban on entry into the United Kingdom, will be extended to individuals and legal entities of “strategic importance” to the Russian authorities.
On Sunday, British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss told Sky News that the country’s authorities would change existing legislation to expand the sanctions list.
“Currently, we can impose sanctions only on those who are directly involved in destabilizing activities in Ukraine. We will expand the list so that any company with an interest in the Kremlin and the Russian regime can be subject to sanctions“, She said.
At the same time, Trass declined to disclose any details of what the new sanctions would be.
“Nothing is out of the question,” she said when asked about possible measures against the assets of big Russian businessmen living in London. She also stressed that in the event of a “Russian occupation of Ukraine”, Germany is ready to abandon the Nord Stream-2 pipeline.
