Austria is gradually easing restrictions on fighting the coronavirus pandemic, despite the high number of daily infections.
Starting February 5, curfew will be in effect from midnight, as opposed to 10pm now. From February 12, there will be no more application for vaccine testing or passport in the sales sector, Chancellor Karl Nehammer from Vienna said on January 29.
From 19 February, people with a negative coronavirus test but no evidence of vaccination or cure for the virus will be able to visit restaurants and bars.
In the reasoning for making these decisions it is said that hospitals are no longer overloaded. “The figures are stable and predictable,” Nehammer said, referring to the situation in hospitals and intensive care units.
Tourism Minister Elisabeth Köstinger has said the new curfew regulation will be welcomed as it is in favor of businesses and tourists. In the last seven days, about 2,400 people per 100,000 inhabitants have been infected in Austria.
