The Kosovo Olympic team will leave for China on January 29, to participate in the Winter Olympic Games “Beijing 2022”.
Kosovo in this Olympics will be represented by two skiers: Albin Tahiri, 32 years old, and Kiana Kryeziu, 17 years old.
The President of the Kosovo Olympic Committee, Ismet Krasniqi, said in a press conference that the participation of two athletes from Kosovo in the Olympics in China is a great achievement, reports REL.
“90 countries are participating in the Olympics and 105 countries have not managed to win Olympic norms,” he said.
The Olympic Committee expects the two athletes to have a good ranking in the final rankings.
“Our expectations are not like those in the Northern Olympics, given how difficult the sport of skiing is,” said Krasniqi, recalling that from the Summer Games, Kosovo returned with two gold medals in the sport of judo.
Meanwhile, the President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani handed over the state flag of Kosovo to the Olympic team. She said that athletes are the best ambassadors, because “even in countries that have not recognized us, they are continuing to raise our flag.” China has not recognized Kosovo’s independence.
This is the second time that Kosovo participates in the Winter Olympics. In 2018, at the Olympics in South Korea, Kosovo was represented by skier Albin Tahiri.
The Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics will be held from February 4 to 20.
