The lion in sight disturbed a herd of lions with their prey and after fierce confrontation seems to have lost its genitals when they attacked it because it wanted to take food from their young.
The lion known in the area as Mandevo tried to get the slaughtered buffalo cub from the new mothers without realizing that the food was for about 11 of their puppies waiting.
Mandevo suffered a severe testicular bite amid clashes at the Maasai Mara Reserve in Kenya, which then forced veterinarians to remove one of his testicles to save him.
British photographer Gren Sowerby watched the fight with his camera and then notified park rangers to give veterinary treatment.
Sowerby, regularly visits the area to photograph the animals.
The 71-year-old said: “His screams were like a Formula 1 car! He then lay down and started licking himself.
“We were surprised because we had not seen this behavior before, but probably because it hurt a lot.
If Sowerby and his team had not witnessed the incident, Mandevo might not have received help for his injury.
He added: “The park rangers sent the vet from Nairobi Elephant Hospital. “He performed the operation and now the lion is recovering in the wild, being monitored by park officials.”
