Prime Minister Edi Rama was clear with those who will run in the March 6 local elections. He said that the Socialists should only work face to face with the citizens.
“We must look at our work door to door in all neighborhoods with the respective deputies with the party with territory in order not to promote electoral tourism, with deputies who make more noise than work. With a well-defined threshold of what and when to campaign, not rallies, not crowded masses in closed halls, but head-to-head work with people. With my head down and my ears open is my advice “, said Rama.
According to the SP leader, the Socialists will be the opposite side of the coin of the Democrats, who are still fighting for the January 8 stamp.
Rama emphasizes that the Albanian people are clear in what they see within the DP, who will turn the six municipalities into rags and will ride on top of each other like a game “rraqe rraqe kiliko ”.
“Both in a quarrel over the January 8 stamp and a third that takes life from them both. This is the offer for the democrats, all those who wander, unfortunately, who call themselves part of these peoples, while the Albanian people are clear about everything they see. “In the name of these, locksmiths, thugs will be called, like those games in Tirana when I was little, kikio rags, while the rags will be thrown on top of each other, turning six municipalities into rags that need to be opened”, according to Rama.
By-elections in six municipalities of the country are expected to be held on March 6. The Chairman of the Central Election Commission, Ilirian Celibashi said that in these six municipalities electronic identification will be applied, while in Vora electronic voting will be applied.
According to the CEC, 648,536 voters are registered in these six municipalities, there will be 13 CEAZs and 940 Voting Centers.
President Ilir Meta decreed March 6 as the date of by-elections in the municipalities of Shkodra, Durres, Dibra, Vora, Rrogozhina and Lushnja.
Meta’s decree is delayed, as the Electoral Code stipulates that elections are held “no later than 45 days from the date of notification of the termination of the mandate.”
The Municipality of Shkodra has been without a new mayor since 2019, as the winner of the elections, Valdrin Pjetri of the Socialist Party, lost his mandate due to the decriminalization law, as he had hidden a sentence in the past. The duty is exercised by the old mayor, Voltana Ademi.
The municipality of Vora was also left without a mayor after Agim Kajmaku became subject to the decriminalization law. In the municipality of Rrogozhina, the mayor Haxhi Memolla passed away, while the mayor of Dibër, Dionis Imeraj, resigned after running for deputy in the SP list.
The Municipality of Durrës also remained without a mayor after the resignation in December 2019 of Valbona Sakos. The last municipality left without a mayor is Lushnja in July 2021, when Mayor Fatos Tushe was fired by the Prime Minister after being arrested for corruption by the SPAK.
Meta argued his long delay by waiting for a decision of the Constitutional Court on the Constitutionality of the local elections of June 30, 2019.
These elections were held in a political conflict situation, as the opposition decided to boycott them, while the president himself had annulled them by decree.
The Democratic Party was not called for consultations by the president, while the announcement of the elections comes at a time when the largest opposition party is divided.
