Athens is covered in heavy snowfall this Monday. At the moment no major problems are noticed.
In the northern suburbs of the country’s capital some roads are blocked, while the Athens-Thessaloniki axis is currently passable only with chains.
By order of the Ministry of Education, schools will be closed for 48 hours, while the entire state mechanism is put on standby while civil protection has appealed to citizens to perform only the necessary movements.
The situation is difficult in the Aegean islands, where the thickness of the snow reaches up to 50 cm.
