Two Canadians have died and a third were wounded last night in an armed battle at the famous Mexican resort of Cancun.
The clash erupted in the luxury Ksaret complex when a Canadian had opened fire on three of his compatriots, according to authorities. Mexican officials said those involved in the battle were hotel clients and had criminal records for theft, drugs and possession of weapons.
The head of security, Lucio Hernandez, said the violence is linked to drug trafficking which has been a serious scourge for the Mexican coast for years.
Last November two traffickers were killed in a gun battle on the beach near Cancun luxury resort.
While in October two tourists from Germany and India were killed by blind bullets in another clash between traffickers. Mexico recorded 33,308 homicides last year despite ongoing government-sponsored anti-cartel operations, which critics accuse of being part of the trafficking.
