NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg stressed the unity of the defense alliance in the face of possible Russian aggression against Ukraine.
“All NATO allies have made it clear on several occasions that we will respond if Russia takes aggressive action against Ukraine once again,” Stoltenberg said in a statement to CNN. “We are ready to impose sanctions and , of course, we are thinking about increasing the number of NATO troops deployed in the eastern part of the alliance.
“At the same time, we have invited Russia to a series of meetings to sit down and try to find a political solution,” he added. “NATO in our response to Russia’s aggressive actions against Ukraine,” he said.
US President Joe Biden said the day before that he had made it “absolutely clear” to Russian President Vladimir Putin that “if any Russian unit crosses the Ukrainian border, it counts as an invasion.” Russia has already sent over 100,000 troops to the border with the state of Ukraine.
