The Dutch version of the well-known series of young talents “The Voice” has been suspended on charges of abuse and sexual misconduct by executives.
Dutch production company RTL said it was shutting down broadcasts to investigate multiple allegations of “sexual misconduct” and “abuse of office,” according to a statement issued by them over the weekend.
Among the accused is The Voice orchestra conductor Jeroen Rietbergen, who has already resigned and apologized.
The production group RTL, which is a subsidiary of the American network CNN, said it was not aware of the allegations until they were published by the local investigative program ‘BOOS’.
After the first reports of abuse, BOOS chief Tim Hofman called on anyone else who had experienced such abusive and denigrating behavior.
“Numerous reactions came from girls and people who had been victims or witnesses of abuse or sexual or professional misconduct in this program,” the program statement said.
In addition to Rietbergen, the BOOS adds that the allegations include many other people within the program, in a general “culture” that accompanied the television set.
Yesterday Dutch Justice Minister Dilan Yeşilgöz-Zegerius urged all those who had fallen prey to manipulation or low sexual behavior in the program to report to the police or prosecutor’s office to launch an investigation.
