The pronounced energy crisis in Kosovo forced the institutions to set tariffs for electricity services earlier.
The Energy Regulatory Office has proposed a 9% increase for businesses and household consumers consuming up to 600 kWh of energy and a much higher increase for consumers passing this block.
According to the ERO proposal, bills with average consumption up to 450 kWh will increase by 2.3 euros, while bills for consumption up to 600 kWh will increase by three euros. The largest increase will be for customers who exceed the block set by ERO of 600 kWh. Consequently consumers who spend up to 800 kWh will pay 27 euros more, while persons who exceed the energy consumption over 1000 kWh will pay 50 euros more.
This institution announces that a subsidy from the Government of Kosovo will prevent the increase of tariffs. The executive pledged on Tuesday to allocate 75m euros so that, according to them, there would be no increase in tariffs for businesses and household customers who do not cross the block. The opposition considers this ERO proposal as appropriate, but blames the executive for mismanagement.
“The inactions of the Government of Kosovo result in a 42% increase in the price of electricity for the citizens of Kosovo. Government inaction to find solutions is hurting Kosovar businesses and families“, Said the LDK MP, Besian Mustafa.
““It is unacceptable because it increases the high rate of poverty in the country, because it affects the budget of every household, because even so we have a huge increase in all prices.”, says the deputy Ferat Shala.
The proposal of the Energy Regulatory Office will be in public discussion until January 28.
