Novak Djokovic’s participation in the Australian Open has become a state issue for Australia. All due to the fact that the Serbian tennis player has not been vaccinated, while the Australian state at this point has strict rules to avoid the spread of COVID-19.
Last Monday, after being previously detained, the 34-year-old in a court hearing got OK to continue his stay in Australia and participate in the prestigious tournament. Recently, however, it is the Minister of Integration, Alex Hawke, who has decided to exercise the power of his position and take the decision to cancel Noles’s visa on the grounds that he is a risk to public health by reversing the whole situation.
Meanwhile, the Serbian lawyers are immediately prepared to appeal this decision of the Minister and it remains to be seen if their request will succeed, while if the appeal rejects the request of Djokovic’s lawyers, then the number one tennis player in the world should left Australia immediately. On the other hand, the time is not in Djokovic’s favor as the tournament starts on January 17.
