“Berisha failed to control the January 8 protest.” This is what the President of the country, Ilir Meta, said this Friday in a statement for the media.
According to him, the former prime minister failed to control the protesters he had called himself, while on the other hand Lulzim Basha as party chairman has the duty to determine his own legitimacy.
“This is not between Basha and Berisha, it is done to trivialize the problem. I was the prime minister, I was in the majority and not the minority, I also won against Fatos Nano, I resigned. We are dealing with a crisis of legitimacy, dualism. It is true that he was elected head of the Democratic Party because he had the support of Berisha, Flamur Noka, Albana Vokshi, etc. Suddenly every reason, they take away this support but question its entire legitimacy. It is his duty to establish his legitimacy. Did he say there will be no assembly because I do not want to divide the party, he declared the assembly himself. What are these, paralytic structures. “I have not hidden that I have a weakness for the doctor, but when he makes such an organization from the beginning in the most peaceful way, the protesters come at 10:30 when it was announced at 12 o’clock. This is an old story.”, said Meta.
We recall that the January 8 protest called by former Prime Minister Sali Berisha degraded into violence and the demolition of the Democratic Party building, in order, according to them, to enter the free house of the Democrats.
Hundreds of Democrats with hammers and bars tried to enter the building from the first floor and stairs from the second floor, while Basha’s supporters responded from inside the headquarters.
Only the intervention of the police at the request of the deputies inside the blue headquarters, brought the normalization of the aggravated situation.
