Four other US diplomats working in Geneva and Paris have contracted the neurological disease known as “Havana Syndrome,” US media reported.
Three diplomats fell ill in the Swiss city, and another in the French capital last summer.
About 200 people have been affected by this disease in five years.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has said that the US Government is working to find the essence of this mystery.
There are concerns that any opponent may have targeted the diplomats with the microwave.
Blinken said the issue had been discussed with Russia, but no conclusion had been reached.
Havana Syndrome was first identified in Cuba in 2016, and has affected US diplomats, spies and family members, as well as a number of Canadian diplomatic staff, engaged in Cuba.
Some people who have experienced the Syndrome have been experiencing dizziness and fatigue for months.
Among the latest cases is a person who has been evacuated from Switzerland to the United States for treatment, media reported.
Blinken told the American media that he had talked to workers who described their illness and how their lives had changed.
He said people were “directly and strongly affected”.
“Until now we do not know what happened, and we do not know exactly who is responsible,” he said.
“We are constantly working to understand what happened, who is responsible,” he said.
Russia, China and the United States have said they have been investigating microwaves for military purposes, but Moscow has denied allegations that it used “microwave weapons” against US missions.
