Russia’s Defense Ministry has released a video showing armies from Russia, Belarus and Kyrgyzstan guarding strategic facilities in Kazakhstan’s largest city.
President Kassym-Yomart Tokayev says a contingent of Russian-led forces will begin to leave the troubled Central Asian country within two days.
Earlier, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken criticized the deployment of 2,500 Russian-led troops in Kazakhstan.
Officials in Moscow have stressed that the deployment was based on the Collective Security Treaty, the Eurasian military alliance between the five former Soviet republics and Russia.
Protests in Kazakhstan erupted last week, due to rising gas prices.
Dozens of people are estimated to have lost their lives during the violent protests these days, but there is still no updated figure for the victims, which includes law enforcement.
