The Chamber of Advocates in Saranda has opposed the draft draft HJC for the new court map, which dissolves most of the courts in the country, including that of Saranda.
The reform that also affects the prosecution according to local interest groups will bring great difficulties not only for justice workers but for the community at large.
In a wide local discussion, the Chamber of Advocates has considered the study of the HJC superficial and copied from the Nordic countries with which Albania can not be compared even in terms of road infrastructure as an ease to go to court.
The court of Saranda has been functioning for 50 years and is in function of a population of about 130,000 inhabitants. During 2019 the court had a volume of 1739 civil cases and 1020 criminal cases. Moreover, the city is a tourist destination that receives almost 700 thousand visitors every year.
The Chamber of Advocates has proposed that the role of the Courts remain unchanged or in the absence of a solution the Saranda court be a branch of that of Gjirokastra without changing its location. Lawyers and interest groups have also demanded the avoidance of the amalgamation of the Court of Appeals in Gjirokastra, arguing the importance of the presence of the institution in the region or, conversely, an appellate court in Fier for the whole South.
