The split in the Democratic Party has also included the newspaper Rilindja Demokratike.
On the 31st anniversary of its founding, the media, which started as a symbol of free speech, seems to have fallen into the trap of conflict between the leader of the Democrats Lulzim Basha and his supporters and on the other hand Sali Berisha and those who support his initiative.
The editor-in-chief of the Democratic Renaissance, Bledi Kasmi, invited today to “Top Talk”, says that the official DP suddenly changed the codes of the ‘online’ newspaper and thus the journalists were deprived of access to post on the web:
“There have been surprise attempts by the Democratic Party structures, or rather, by what is left of the Democratic Party.
At some point, the electronic locks of the newspaper, the web entrances, of the ‘online’ newspaper are changed. We did not have access, not only me as editor-in-chief, but the whole group of journalists. We waited for an official communication from the party structures, what was happening? The most normal thing was to call the editor-in-chief, say there was a problem, or get fired. But, after no communication ?! Without any reason, you go and close them?”
According to Kasmi, the Democratic Renaissance, in its publications, had maintained a neutral stance, reflecting equally the activities of Basha and Berisha.
“I as the editor-in-chief, throughout the time there has been a debate or other debates, have reflected on them. We have made a reflection of both parties. We were balanced. We have not sided with one or the other.
Up to a point, we had no intervention. And for that I had respect for all the political actors of the Democratic Party. We chose to maintain a balanced attitude, avoiding the extreme expressions of the parties. We wanted to enable a bridge of communication between the actors in this situation. There could have been a more tolerant and civilized way of communicating to the parties.
He could have a personal grudge against me, because on my ‘Facebook’, I hold a personal position, but so…”
The editor-in-chief says there have been ongoing efforts to assimilate and shut down the Democratic Renaissance. He even confesses, “the situation worsened even further. We were told we had to vacate the offices. “A completely ridiculous move.”
Now, just as the Democratic Party is split in two, so is the Democrat newspaper, appearing on the web in two versions.
