Italy reported 259 deaths from COVID-19 on Tuesday, while a day earlier 140 deaths had been reported by the Ministry of Health.
Also according to the announcement issued on Tuesday, a record number of 170,844 new cases of COVID-19 were registered. Just the day before, 68,052 new cases were reported.
Since the pandemic outbreak in February 2020, Italy has recorded 138,045 deaths from coronavirus and to date has reported 6.57 million cases of COVID-19.
About 12,912 patients with COVID-19 were admitted to Italian hospitals on Tuesday, excluding patients in intensive care.
In Italy, almost 80 percent of the population has been vaccinated with two doses of the vaccine and about 30 percent have received the booster dose of the coronavirus vaccine.
The Italian government at the end of 2021, has imposed restrictions on travelers, including those within the European Union.
All citizens must undergo a coronavirus test before traveling./REL
