It took just 15 minutes difference for two California twins to be born in different years.
Fatima Madrigal and Robert Trujillo welcomed their son Alfredo on the night of December 31 at 11:45 a.m., while his sister Aylin came to life shortly after midnight on New Year’s Eve.
Aylin weighed 2.6 kilograms and was the first child born at the Natividad maternity hospital in Monterey in 2022. While her brother Alfredo, weighed almost 3 kg.
“It’s strange that children are twins but they will have different birthdays,” Madrigal said in notification maternity press in California.
Dr. Ana Abril Arias, the center’s family doctor, said the birth was “one of the most memorable of her career.”
“It was an absolute pleasure for the two little ones to come to life, one in 2021 and the other in 2022,” she said. “Great way to start the New Year!”
There are about 120,000 births each year in the US, but births of twins with different birth dates are a coincidence estimated to occur once in 2 million.
Madrigal twins will be welcomed home by their three siblings.
Madrigal said the eldest son could hardly wait for his first brother, as well as the two daughters their third sister.
