A Mississippi police officer went to respond to an exchange of fire with victims Sunday, but when she arrived at the scene, she found her son dead, local media reported.
“When we arrived I got out of the car and now, ‘This is my son, this is my son!'” Said the shocked mother, police officer Laquandia Cooley, in an interview with the network. WBLT after the severe tragedy in the town of Hazlehurst.
Cooley’s son, 20-year-old Charles Stewart Jr., 20, was lying in the middle of the street with a bullet wound to the head.
“I could not believe what I was seeing. “I was seeing my son lying there, dead, it was too much,” said Cooley, a Hazlehurst police officer.
The victim’s father, Charles Stewart, told the agency that his son was friendly with everyone.
“It’s traumatic for the whole family. We are ostensibly trying to cope day by day. “We are trying to understand why this happened and who may have done it,” said the father.
Police said they are investigating but the circumstances of the fatal shooting are still unclear. The case has been referred to the ‘Mississippi Bureau of Investigation’ office, reports said.
