Energy has become one of the most valuable commodities on the market today. Albania as a country, which produces energy only when there is rainfall, is forced to buy 1/3 of the production in the market.
For this reason the government spent 200 million euros to ensure uninterrupted energy supply during 2021. But the government’s ambitions in the future are for Albania to become a net exporter and this requires energy diversification. Expert Anduel Cekrezi says that the country is moving in the right direction.
On the other hand, businesses that are expected to enter the free market during 2022 must find alternative forms of energy. They are thinking of becoming self-producers, but the law in Albania has a stalemate.
Also, the Skavica hydropower plant and the Vlora power plant are expected to be implemented as projects in the coming years. With these two sources, Albania can cover its needs and create conditions for export.
