The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) plans to approve a booster dose of the Pfizer vaccine for children ages 12 to 15 on Monday, the New York Times reports.
U.S. regulators also plan to allow teens and adults to receive an additional dose of the Pfizer vaccine five months after the second dose, instead of six months as it is now, the New York Times reported, citing sources familiar with the health agency’s decisions.
The sudden increase in the number of COVID infections in the United States caused by the spread of the omicron variant has led to an almost record number of hospitalizations of children, while experts point out that most children have not been vaccinated, reports the AP.
