France announced today 206,243 new confirmed cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours. This is the second day that the number of infected exceeds the limit of 200,000, as the Omicron variant has invaded the country.
A record 208,099 infections were recorded yesterday, with Health Minister Olivier Veran warning of a “tsunami” of cases. The seven-day moving average of new daily cases rose to a record 121,566, a number almost quadrupled in just one month.
The use of the mask on the streets of Paris and Lyon will again be mandatory, as authorities try to avoid a rapid increase in cases on New Year’s Eve.
The total number of patients treated with Covid-19 has increased by 465 in the last 24 hours to 18,321, a seven-month high. However, that number is almost half of the record of 33,497 in November 2020. The death toll from Covid-19 increased by 180 in 24 hours, to 123,552 deaths.
