Teacher who ‘harassed’ students online to lure them to LGBTQ club, denies allegations (photos)

Buena Vista high school staff signaled about the recruitment approach that education worker Lori Caldeira made to students at an LGBTQ education conference in October.

Participants recorded her comments and sent them to a journalist who later wrote about the issue.

The school’s LGBTQ club has already been suspended and its teachers have been given time off for investigative time.

Caldeira said at the conference: “When we were doing the virtual lesson we asked the students what they see online when they are not learning. “One of them was seen asking for the ‘Trans Visibility Day’ page, and we invite him to the LGBT group as soon as he gets back to school.”

One of the signaling teachers told the San Francisco Chronicle daily that colleagues do not monitor children’s activity through tracking apps like GoGuardian.

This program was widely used in the US during the beginning of online teaching, and allows teachers to control student searches, with the purported purpose of “avoiding erroneous searches.”

In another of the comments Caldeira had said: “I see that this dog is sculpted with the rainbow flag, this is clear.”

Parents and teachers told the media that children are already under the strong influence of social networks and do not need other issues instead of raising children.

A local parent said this month that the daughter’s name had been changed without her approval and that the school had called child protection services after the mother objected.

“You deprive me of the ability to be a parent for my child and get the help of institutions,” accused parent Jessica Konen at the conference.

Complaints against Konen were subsequently withdrawn.

Already Caldeira and her colleague Baraki said they are afraid to leave the house after the flood of hatred and threats they have received.
