A new study conducted recently in South Africa, shows that the new Covid variant of the coronavirus can increase the body’s immunity to the most dangerous strain, Delta.
The Times of Israel says the study was initially conducted on a small number of people some of whom were vaccinated and others not, but meanwhile all were affected by Omicron.
The scientists took blood samples 14 days later from these people to see how the body had reacted and whether it could neutralize Omicron and Delta. Of the 15 people tested, two did not display this ability. The other ports resulted in 14 times more antibodies to the new species, as is logical after recovery, while also recording a quadrupling of antibodies against Delta.
The study was led by Alex Sigal, a researcher at the African Health Research Institute, who studied in Israel. “We expected an increase in the immune response to Omicron, but in the meantime we saw that other people also had an increase in the immune response to Delta,” he said.
South African experts already continue to insist that those affected by Omicron have a lower risk of hospitalization and serious illness, compared to Delta.
