Within three days, the German lifeboat “Sea Watch 3”, which sails across the Mediterranean, has managed to save hundreds of migrants from the dangers of the open sea. Finally, she rescued 100 migrants whose gomonia was sinking.
This was the fifth rescue mission in the last three days, announced the German organizers of the rescue operation. The Sea-Watch 3, along with the last survivors, now houses 446 migrants, including a two-week-old baby and a pregnant woman.
All the survivors have received health care, according to the organizers. It is not yet known in which port they will land. In the past the rescue boats of private humanitarian organizations had to wait for days until they anchored in a European port. On Christmas night, 223 people were able to leave the Sea-Eye 4 lifeboat.
After “eight difficult days”, the German organization, Sea-Eye announced, the survivors could go to the port of Pocalo in Sicily. Crossing the Mediterranean is considered one of the most dangerous routes in the world for refugees.
It is estimated that this year alone, 1,900 people have drowned or disappeared in the Mediterranean trying to come to Europe, but in the meantime this is only the official figure, as it is suspected that the real number could be even higher.
