Nine people have been confirmed infected with the “Omicron” variant of the coronavirus in Kosovo.
The National Institute of Public Health of Kosovo announces that in the laboratory of molecular microbiology, Department of Microbiology of NIPHK, 22 positive samples were tested in SARS-CoV-2, of the period 15-25 December 2021, where 9 of them were positive in presence of the “Omicron” variant.
From the epidemiological research, it has resulted that from these cases: two cases are imported from the USA, two from the United Kingdom, one from France and 4 cases with the “Omicron” variant are in the municipality of Mitrovica, who deny the travel history and that have had contact with someone from outside.
Testing was performed with RT PCR and additional kits received through the WHO. After the introduction of “Omicron” in the world, Europe, the region and now in Kosovo, it is predicted that the epidemiological situation will worsen.
This variant, based on the data so far, has an even faster spread than the “Delta” variant. MoH and NIPHK call on citizens to implement the measures in force and to be vaccinated and to encourage others to be vaccinated.
