The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST), the most powerful ever built, was launched into space to explore the oldest galaxies in the universe.
The telescope has been built jointly by space agencies in Europe, the US and Canada and its launch is planned for decades. He set sail from the European space port of Kourou in French Guiana aboard an Arian launch vehicle, for a four-week voyage into its intended orbit, approximately 1.5 million kilometers away.
The launch was broadcast live on NASA’s website. The telescope will use a 25-square-foot mirror to provide images of the early universe on a 10-year mission.
“We have this telescope on top of this rocket. A telescope in which more than 10,000 people have worked in many ways. “Along with that telescope are all the hopes and dreams of those individuals and also tens of thousands of scientists.”
