A firefighter at the home of her partner’s ex-wife who retaliated for the extension of divorce proceedings, was sentenced today to four years in prison in Britain.
23-year-old Chloe Shotton, who had started dating her married husband since 2019, was in fact the reason for the breakdown of his 22-year marriage.
But seeing that the ex-wife did not decide to officially end her marriage she decided to “take matters into her own hands” by releasing a burning plastic bag from the mail door hole of the house, when Leanne Stildolph slept in it, her 17-year-old son and a friend of hers with her daughter.
Fortunately the fire did not spread to the house but only at the entrance and emergency services managed to bring the situation under control.
The damage was estimated at around pa 1,000 and when Shotton was arrested she asked: “What happened, did that house burn down, did people die?”
Today in the court of Newcastle in the north of Britain it was said that the motive of the arson attack were the delays that the victim was creating in closing the divorce documents.
The court was told that Shotton was suspected of harassing her boyfriend’s ex-wife even before the fire, damaging the windows of her car or even the windows of the house, but the latter could not be proven.
Judge Tony Hawks sentenced the defendant to nearly four years in prison saying the consequences of her actions could have been much more severe.
In her statement the victim Stildolph said that she had separated from her husband from his infidelity with (Shotton) with whom he had also given birth to a child.
She added that images had been sent to Shotton with her ex-husband, and even a video of the two kissing in bed.
The accused had previous charges and a suspended prison sentence for beating.
The accused was identified by security cameras by releasing the burning letter in the mailbox to cause the fire.
The victim said: She (Shotton) is now my ex-husband’s partner of 22 years. “Since 2019, I have reported a series of incidents against Chloe.”
The motive for the attack is because the victim was reluctant to sign divorce papers.
Giving his sentence, the judge told Shotton: “You are 23 years old, you are still young, but your records so far are bad.
“You showed sound reasons for admitting guilt and I’m sure you were already hindered in your action. “Unfortunately, it’s clear that the reasons for your behavior come from your childhood difficulties.”
Shotton further said he suffers from autism which has always made him insist on attention, but promised he had learned from her suffering.
