The Prime Minister of Northern Macedonia, Zoran Zaev, submits his resignation to the Parliament today. He confirmed this himself during his visit to Tirana, when at the press conference held within the “Open Balkans”, he said that this would be his last day as head of the Macedonian executive.
Zaev had announced his decision immediately after the local elections, where his party scored a rather poor result.
At the same time, he decided to leave the post of chairman of SDSM; The reins of the ruling party now pass to Dimitar Kovacevski, who will also be the new prime minister-designate and the formation of a new government in Skopje.
Following the resignation of the Prime Minister, the President of Northern Macedonia has 10 days to entrust the mandate to the parties that have a majority in the Assembly.
The Prime Minister-designate submits the program to the parliament within 20 days from the day of receiving the mandate and proposes the formation of the government. Zaev was elected prime minister in April 2017.
