Gjirokastra police have hit a case of smuggling of goods for which excise had to be paid, but which turned out to be unpaid. Thus, the two drivers of the bus in Kakavija were arrested and two customs officers were prosecuted for abuse of office.
“Following the work to prevent, identify and crack down on smuggling, based on information provided by the police, the specialists of the Economic-Financial Crime Investigation Section in DVP Gjirokastra arrested in flagrante delicto the citizen Gj. V., 31 years old, resident in Tirana and E. Xh., 50 years old, resident in Berat (bus drivers).
The arrest of the above citizens was made after the control exercised in the bus vehicle that these citizens were driving, in the place called “River Bridge”, Gjirokastra, goods were found (clothes, cosmetics and 40 packs of cigarettes), which these citizens have introduced them in the Republic of Albania, without declaring them at the Customs Office Kakavije.
At the end of the investigative actions were prosecuted for the criminal offense “Abuse of duty”, citizens YR, 50 years old and EH, 47 years old resident in Gjirokastra, on duty at the Customs Office Kakavije “, reports the Police.
The goods were seized as material evidence. The total value of the goods is around 8000 euros.
The materials in charge of the above citizens were forwarded to the Prosecution at the Gjirokastra Court of First Instance, for further action.
